War of the Worlds is a movie based on a book that goes by the same title by H.G Wells. However, the movie isn't entirely the same as the novel, like every other adapted movie. It tells the story of a family trying to survive under the attack that comes from the aliens invading the earth, and it shows how much humans are actually helpless against greater powers that might exist out there. Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a divorced man who has a job with low salary and a small house. One fateful day his ex-wife, Marry Anne (Miranda Otto) came by to drop their kids; Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and Rachel (Dakota Fanning) for him to watch while she and her new husband went to Boston. Just a while after she left, weird incidents started to happen. There was a strange lightning that stroke the same place numerous times and scared everyone around. It seemed like there was going to be a storm, but the wind was blowing toward the core of the storm instead of out of it. Something unusual was happening. The answer to the weird happenings came when there was a crack on the ground where the lightning stroke. Soon enough, it enlarged to a very big hole, allowing a tripod-like machine to emerge to the surface. And that's when the war began.

The machines appeared from everywhere and started turning humans to ashes with just one flash. They destroyed everything, and Ray had to seek for a safe place to save his family. They went from one city to the other, but it was clear that there was no more safe place on earth. People went crazy and became extremely individualistic as they felt their life threatened, and would use any way possible to get to safety. Ray got his car robbed by this group of people who even threatened him and his children with guns. No one cared about others anymore, all that mattered were themselves. It seemed like humans had no chances against these aliens, but you would see at the end of the show how we could conquer them, or to be more exact, how Mother Nature could.

War of the Worlds will keep you tense from the start to the end, and with such great actors and director, you should be satisfied.
