Lord of the rings: the return of the king
Talk
about leaving the best till last. This movie is a visual masterpiece. No wonder
it took home so many awards!!!
It concludes the journey, (after three years) of Frodo and the fellowship of the ring. My only problem with it was that Orlando Bloom said about a total of 2 and a half lines.... getting over that....
This movie was something to behold. It was a feast for the eyeballs - the landscapes, the builidings - you would never have guessed they were models or CG. The guys at WETA really know what they are doing. The cast give an outstanding performance: the ones that stood out were Aussie girl Miranda Otto as the female warrior Eowyn, and Sean Astin (50 first dates) as Samwise. It was absolutely stunning. Even without the CG, it was one hell of a movie - they had one beautiful script. The movie gives a well-rounded feel, and was almost worth the three year wait - well almost, in some cases it was pure agony.
Gollum was absolutely amazing. Andy Serkis and the WETA team did one great job. Before I fall over myself complimenting the arts and graphics, I would just say that this movie has everything: to the comedy of Pippin, the love of Sam and Frodo, the pain of loss, realisation of dreams, loyalty and finally closure.
This series has been my favourite series of all time, for a long time. I read all the books, and it is quite true to them. I'm actually speachless - there's not much else you can say about something the strove for a level of filmaking that was otherwise unachievable, but now has set a standard in which all other movies have to live upto. No other movie, or series, have I been glued to the edge of my seat, laughing with the characters, crying when they were suffering. It is one magical film.
