Spirited away

Directed by : Hayao Miyazaki

This movie was directed by the amicable Hayao Miyazaki, the legend of animation (in my opinion anyway). The art was absolutely gorgeous, the storyline, encapturing, the characters - extremely lovable.

This movie won a whole heap of awards. At first I didn't understand why, but that was quickly rectified. It has been one of the few Japanese animations to be recognised by the Acadamy Awards (it won best animated feature).

The main character, is swept into this other world where the owner of the Bath-house has the biggest head I've ever seen, and has a nasty disposition. There she meets a number of wonderous characters, all to rescue her parents who are turned into pigs.

The movie is vibrant, and full of colour. The soundtrack is gorgeous, and you don't get bored by the quirky storyline. You fall in love with the characters, and the noble White Dragon - these characters are realistic. They don't act as if all these magical happenings are so normal. I think it was something that appealed to me so much.
