Serendipity
Director: Peter ChelsomSerendipity makes us wonder; does fate exist? Is everything destined to be? Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) met Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) when they both wanted the same gloves in Bloomingdale's. They touched the last pair at the same time, and from that moment it all started. Jonathan wanted to get to know Sara, but Sara wasn't sure they were meant to be with each other. So she left her phone number on a book she then sold to someone else, and left Jonathan without even letting him know her name. She believed that if they were meant to meet again, destiny would reunite them. Years later, both were engaged to someone else and had put the past behind them. Still, neither of them could forget the other and decided to give it a try one last time to find each other. Only time and destiny would tell whether they would succeed or not.
The movie is rather classic when it comes to the scenes where they almost meet
each other but keeps missing by a few close seconds. However, it is still fun
to watch and keeps us smiling throughout the show because they wrapped the classic
story so well. I particularly love the ironic bit when Jonathan's own fiancee
gave the book with Sara's name on it as their wedding present. Of all the books
he had searched throughout the years, he had to find it in his own wedding gift,
given by none other but his very own fiancee. This also eventually made him
cancel the wedding. Serendipity is lovable, and it might even start making us
believe that fate, or destiny, does exist. Your soulmate is out there somewhere
and no matter what happens you'll find him or her someday and you'll know that
he/she's the one.
